Renovations~!

Kelvin and I decided to renovate his room since i'll be moving in next year when we get married. We thought of the things to be done to the room and decided on the following:

  • Repainting of rooom - ICI Dulux Light & Space range (Desert Wind) and white for ceiling
  • Bay window seat with storage space - white floral laminate bottom with black suede-like material cushion
  • Custom made wardrobe - Glossy black
  • Hacking of the built in old wardrobes (2 of them) and desk
  • Revarnishing of the parquet flooring
  • New airconditioner unit
We got 3 quotes from different contractors and decided to go with the one recommended by my colleague Liz who is also her acquaintence. The main reason was cuz he gave the most reasonable quotes haha, but the total cost still come up to around 5-6k.

Aircon

The old one in Kelvin's room was not working properly, it could be switched on but it wasnt blowing cool air more like hot hair haha.

We went to Gain City (heard from the renotalk forums they had good reviews) and the aircon person came down to the house to give some quotes. They recommended Mitsubishi Electric and Toshiba as the better aircon brands to get nowadays. I always thought Daikin was not too bad but the aircon person said got some pple complain abt Dakin haha (and i rem the one in my room now is Daikin and its also spoiled!)

In the end, we got the Toshiba Aircon inverter and so far we've used it a few times its great. The room cools quite fast and there is an energy saving function to use if you want to save electricty. Its also super quiet so u wont hear the aircon motor sound when u switch it on.

Parquet flooring

Before

Here is the old parquet floor before it was grinded and revarnished. Kelvin's dad decided to have the whole parquet flooring done in the entire house since we were doing it anyway..

After

Before

After

Can see the difference is quite big haha..looks much nicer now ;)

Lamp

This is the new lamp that we bought. We went to a few shops at Balestier Rd and decided to get this one from the shop @ lighting.com.sg.

Wardrobe

Before - old wardrobe

In progress -old wardrobe hacked away, now no more wardrobe hahaha

Before: Built in wardrobe and desk on opposite side of room

To be hacked away to make room for a bay window seat that would stretch along one end of the room and open the window area to allow more sunlight to come in

In progress - after hacking

Now u can see the whole window

More updates to come, the room is 3/4 done..they're starting to install the window seats and new wardrobe soon so will post up once everything is done up ;) We will be buying more stuff for the room soon:

  • New LCD flatscreen tv to be mounted opposite the bed
  • New queen sized bed
  • Wallpaper
  • Bedside lamp/table (maybe)
But we're not in a hurry to buy all the stuff cuz our wedding wont be so early and will be around end of next year. So we will look around for bargains and do up the room fully next year heh.
