Tokyo Trip (23 Oct to 31 Oct 08)

I'm back from my trip to Tokyo and it's been a really fun and enjoyable holiday for me. (Although I must admit, i have never walked so much during a holiday before!! We walked so many hours everyday till our feet were sore and i wore out my shoes which i had to throw away lol)

So many things have been happening at home and i didnt really feel good about going for a holiday. But i'm glad that i did though ;) It was a good time for me to take a break from work and things happening at home. Although i was abit worried during the trip, i still managed to put my worries aside and had a great time.

Here are the pics taken from my first trip to Tokyo! I took like 300 over pics and 10 over videos..it took me quite a while to upload my pics man..

Waiting at the airport for Sharon to come
She was held up in a traffic jam on the highway and we were so late !! but luckily,we made it in the nick of time, thanks to the helpful counter staff from SQ.

We took the A380 plane to Tokyo and it was not too bad..got more leg space and the screen was
bigger than the normal 747 or 777. They also gave a nice Givenchy small toiletries bag with the socks and toothpaste/toothbrush. I didnt really like the food served on the plane though!!The snack was some lousy sandwich :(

Arrived in Tokyo Narita airport! Yokoso Japan!

This was our home during our trip - Shinjuku Oakwood serviced apartment. The place was great, im so glad we stayed there during our trip. The service staff were quite friendly and helpful (we asked them for directions quite a few times haha), the location was great and there was even free DVD rentals for the guests.

Doorway entrance to our room - there is a small kitchen and they have all the plates and kitchen utensils. Best of all, there is a washer cum dryer where we can wash all our clothes during our trip. We washed most of clothes before we came back so we didnt have to wash them when we went back to sg!!

Our room looks so cosy rite??

High tech air ventilation system in the toilet

Our first meal in Tokyo at a ramen resturant in Shinjuku

After taking lunch and doing abit of shopping, we decided to take a quick nap at the apartment as we were quite tired after the plane ride. Didnt get to sleep much on the plane haha.

After that, we went to Takashimaya at nite to walk around.

The next day, we went to the Ghibli Museum at Mitaka.

On the way to Ghibli Museum

We were early so we decided to look around for somewhere to grab breakfast..We found this quaint bakery nearby and the pastries there were so delicious!!

Check out the wide array of pastries available

Yummmy!!

There are many interesting and novelty things in Japan, things that you wont find in Singapore.

For example, it's common to have small jap resturants selling curry, udon and many other dishes - their system of ordering food very cute, u have to put money inside this machine like a vending machine and u press the one u want. The cook will then prepare the food and u just sit down and wait for the food to come!

My order - Curry cutlet with rice (i loved it!)

RanKing, RanQueen - we loved this shop! they sell all the top ranked items in Japan ranging from cosmetics to hair products, slimming products and other stuff..Bought quite a few beauty products from here..I think they should have something like this in Singapore!

There are also many drug stores in Japan that sells loads of beauty products and I bought quite a few stuff there from there..things like hair removal cream, Shiseido Majolica cosmetics, hair mascara etc..

Guided Tour with Naomi

On Sat, we went on a tour to Tsukiji Fish Market, Sensoji Temple, Akihabara. We had a very friendly and wonderful volunteer guide from Tokyo free guide who brought us around for no charge!

I came to know about this free guide service in Tokyo (http://www.tokyofreeguide.com) when i surfing for info on the net and it's a wonderful volunteer guide service for visitors to Tokyo. Do try it out if you are going to Tokyo :)

This is where the young pple like to hang out and alot of trendy stuff are sold here near the Meiji Dori street. This is also where you can find people dressed up in cosplay on Sundays.

Alot of pple at the cosplay area near to the station - although half of them are tourists like us, trying to take pics of the cosplay pple lol.

Omotesando Hills
This is the area near Harajuku, where high end fashion boutiques and classy cafes line the streets. We went there to look for Maisen, this highly recommended restaurant that sells delicious pork cutlet. After much walking and asking some locals for directions, we finally found it (and realized that we walked one big round for nothing, actually it was very near to the metro station!)

Maisen - Food sets available

We had to wait about half an hour to be seated cuz there was a long queue..

Me with my black pork cutlet set which is super expensive..around 45 SGD!

Shibuya

It was raining when we went Shibuya and we didnt see the famous hachinko dog statue leh..

Odaiba
We took a trip to Odaiba, which is a man made island with lots of shoppin centres. We took the Yurikamome there, which is an un-manned elevated train with rubber tires. We bought the one-day pass which allows unlimited stops on the Yurikamome.

After the tour, we reached our ryokan around 5pm plus, just in time for our dinner haha.

This is the japanese style inn (ryokan) which we stayed at.

Romance Car train - Must take the VSE, that's the latest train very modern and comfortable.

On our 2nd last day of our trip, we went down to Harajuku for the 3rd time to buy some last min stuff.

We bought the crepe and it was so yummy!! There's ice-cream wrapped with crepe, topped with loads of whipped cream and strawberry chunks..I loved it so much and im missing it now already haha

Mmmmm....
On the day of our departure, we went to Ginza to walk around but there wasn't much to see there..Mostly expensive branded boutiques like Hermes, LV and Gucci etc. Our flight was cancelled last minute and we were quite irritated actually cuz it screwed up our plans but they gave us a meal voucher for 2000 yen and free telephone card so it sort of appeased us haha.

Sayonara Japan! I'lll be back soon!!
