Thoughts - post SG election..

So the people have spoken, PAP has won by a landslide this time round.

Actually the results were unsurprising. Given the patriotic fever that had gripped Singapore after passing of Mr LKY, PAP was smart to capitalize on the strong sentiments and called for the election not long after.

Frankly, PAP has done a good job for the past 4 yrs since they lost heavily to WP, they changed their headstrong aggressive tactics to one that showed that they were listening to the people. As for WP, it was a shame that they had failed to show much action or meat during these 4 yrs when they had the chance to do so. During parliament sessions, i dont recall anything significant which they spoke up for the people or fought for. As for the rest of the opposition parties, im sorry but i think they r a big joke. Some cant speak English properly or express their views in a semi intelligent manner.

People in Singapore are not dumb, they will give the power to whoever they think will do a good job and help improve their lives.

I do feel sad for Chiam See Tong and his wife though. Even though Chiam is no longer running and his wife has taken over, i still deeply respect  Chiam and the years which he has invested in Potong pasir ward and it saddens me that the people have not voted for Lina Chiam. I remember reading about how he often would spend long hours in his little makeshift office at the void deck, trying to see how he can help the residents.. Maybe the Potong Pasir residents feel that he is too old and feeble now, and his wife is not as strong as him.

After the dust has settled, it's a good time for reflection. WP should seriously reflect and think about what went wrong and what they should do to improve themselves. I am not pro PAP but i also find it hard to support opposition parties that cant show they have the ability to lead the country and come up with good policies to improve Singapore whether its looking at elderly care for our ageing population, transportation or housing issues.

There is much more that still needs to be done - for the middle income and sandwiched ones who need more help to cope with both taking care of their young and old ones, the single mum who would appreciate equal benefits for raising her young and the old man working at the food centre who still has to collect plates and clean tables to earn a living at his age when he should be enjoying his retirement surrounded with his grandkids..

I believe the people will give their vote to whoever can prove themselves during the next few years, may the best man (or party) win in the next election.

And by the way,  if the GST goes up again, u sure know who i will vote for next!!
