My Lasik Experience

I've finally done it..I've gotten my eyes lasiked! (if there's such a term lol) Anyway today is the 3rd day after the op and my eyes are still recovering..not yet 6/6 but i'm praying for the best!!

On the first day of the surgery, the appt was at 230pm at SNEC and my mum accompanied me. We had to sit at the waiting area after making the payment and i saw a few other people were also doing the Lasik..There was this nice girl who was with her mum also, a gay couple and another young guy with his gf..After the nurse called my name, i went in and they gave me this post-op instructions to read..Basically it said i would experience dryness, discomfort, sensitivity to light and watery, dry eyes for up to 1 week..my vision would also be blury and hazy but it would improve after that..And NO rubbing of eyes haha..

Then i waited quite long before the nurse called me to go in again and she put this blue sticker on my forehead, above my right eye (the first eye to be operated on). Then i went out again to wait lol..i was like hmmm so long! then the other pple were given eyedrops to dilate their pupils but i didnt need to..so i was like...how come?then i asked the nurse later when she finally called me in for the actual op..She explained that they were doin another type of lasik cuz their corneas were not so thick and needed to dilate their pupils..Then she put the anasthetic eyedrop in my right eyeand asked me to put on some green surgery dressing gown and a green thing to put my hair back. Then i went it..IT was SOOO scary...they asked me to lie down on the operating bed and then the doc and nurses moved so fast after that! The doc just told me to look above at the red light and then, before i knew it,they had taped up my eyelids so i couldnt blink and put a clamp on it which felt quite uncomfortable urrgh...Then i felt this weird sensation where i could see them take out my eye corneal flap!!it went dark for a few seconds and i was thinking "Ok i think im blind now" then shortly i saw the red light again haha..then another male doc said ok "1/8, 2/8....7/8.. last time" abd each time they said that, the red light became nearer and clearer..then after that, i smelled a burning smell..almost fainted..they were frying my eyeballs i thought to myself hahaha...but after that, it was done! over in 5 mins haha..hmm not bad $1500 per eye for a 5 min ops lol...

I went out to sit on the chair outside and then it struck me..i could see even without my specs/contacts! even though it was very blur and hazy, i could make out words and tats pretty amazing for me, given my super high myopia (i cant even see the first row for the eye test without specs). As i sat outside there, i saw this other girl who was like smiling to herself..she was covering her left eye with her hand and smiling as she looked around..then i realized she must be amazed, that for the first time in her life like me, she could finally see with specs/contacts! i think this was a pretty amazing experience for all of us haha...anyway after that they gave me this jumbo box of eye lubricants and antibiotic eyedrobs and i had to put them every 15 mins for the first day..They also gave me this nice blue pack to put everything in it,pretty cool

The 2nd day, i did my left eye..They measured my right eye degree and it wasnt so good 6/15. At first i was pretty disappointed! i read the flowerpod forum and they were saying they had 6/6 and 6/9 but the doc told me it was cuz my right eye were very dry =/ The 3rd day, i measured my left eye and it was 6/7.5! i was v happy and the right eye improved to 6/12..

So now im hoping for the best that my eyesight will continue to improve haha..i need to go back for another checkup next fri n a month later too! But overall, this has been a really life-changing experience for me..i still cant get used to the feeling of waking up and seeing everything clearly for the first time since pri 4!!Not having to wear contacts and specs is really a great feeling i cant describe for such a blind bat like me lol..i think it was def worth the money for me (:
