I was born and grew up in Ang Mo Kio. We stayed in a simple 3 room HDB flat and while it was very small, I have fond memories of it. Growing up, my mum used to bring me and my sister and bro to the library to borrow books. I remember sitting there in the library for long hours while browsing thru books or even attending those reading sessions where there were people reading kid books aloud. I remember the kids that we used to play with at our old home at AMK, we played so many different games from hop scotch, skipping rope, zero point to masak masak.

The famous Oriental Emporium which I remember going to when I was young! I remember being very impressed by it but i cant remember why lol.

Even after my parents split, I stayed at my granny's house in AMK with my mum and sis during my JC and Uni days and continued to stay there after I graduated and started working.
Just today I went AMK central cuz I felt like going for a good hair wash, I've been to a couple of hair salons at Bishan central but they're not so good i feel. While I was there,it struck me how convenient AMK central is and how I can get so many things done there. For example just this afternoon, I:

While I was there,it struck me how convenient AMK central is and how I can get so many things done there. For example just this afternoon, I:
- Went to the photo shop to print out some pics from my iPhone 4 (@ only 25 cents per pic)
- Bought a remote controller for my aircon (which is not working) and rechargeable AAA batteries from those shops where they sell almost everything
- Deposited $ into my Maybank bank account
- Bought QQ rice (my latest fav food) from AMK hub for lunch
- Got my usual Koi green milk tea with aloe vera
- Did a hair treatment (only cost me $28!) and bought shampoo/conditioner at the K1 hair salon there
- Tried the Samsung SIII and Samsung Note at the samsung shop at AMK hub
You can get practically everything that you need in Ang Mo Kio. There are 2 NTUCs, banks (POSB, Maybank, UOB etc), money changers, hawker centers (S11 etc), kopitiams, inexpensive hair salons where you can get a decent hair cut or hair wash at less than $20, handphone shops, nail salons, Koi and Gong Cha bubble tea shops, Watsons, Guardian, and many other shops.
If you are feeling hungry, there are so many food options at AMK hub: Ichiban Sushi, New York New York, MacDonalds, MOS Burger, QQ rice etc. Or you can go to the hawker center near the Courts where they have good hokkien mee, wanton mee, chicken rice, yong tao fu etc.

My mum used to bring us to this bak chor mee store at the hawker center and even now we still go there to eat sometimes, esp my bro who loves it .
Even now that I'm no longer living there, I will always go to AMK if i need to run errands, borrow books from the library, get a hair wash or just to buy things. I think i'm biased but i honestly feel that Ang Mo Kio central is one of the best heartland towns in Singapore.
